About Us
Washoe County Search and Rescue, Inc. is a volunteer group of men and women dedicated to saving lives and providing assistance to lost and injured people in Washoe County and adjacent areas. Since 1965, this privately funded non-profit organization participate in as many as 75 search and rescue missions each year, donating over 5000 man hours of public service per year. These missions include everything from missing children to lost hunters; injured skiers to downed aircraft.

We utilize many different methods of covering indicated search area, whether by 4-wheel drive vehicles, SnowCats, snowshoes, or old-fashioned hiking.  Each member is trained in skills such as avalanche safety, advanced first aid, winter survival, and land navigation, along with professional search and rescue techniques, such as mantracking (perhaps the most useful tool in the wide-area search effort) to ensure a high level of expertise. The team is capable of deployment without re-supply for up to 48 hours. The unit also maintains 2 satellite phones for communication links under any conditions. Washoe County Search and Rescue, Inc. is on call and ready to help 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
