SAR Certificate Program
SAR Orientation - 20 hrs
Required training that must be completed within 1 year from commission date. If the member's commission date falls between class offerings, you may attend either orientation. Failure to attend an orientation within two years of your commission date will render you ineligible to respond to actual call outs.
SAR Basic Certificate - 30 hours additional training
Prerequisite: SAR Orientation and 1 year experience. Must include all of the following:
SAR Basic Orientation
Basic Helicopter Safety
Basic Land Navigation
Basic Rope
Basic Search Strategy and Tactics
Basic Water Operations
Track Awareness
CPR / First Aid or equivalent
SAR Intermediate Certificate - 50 hours additional training
Prerequisite: SAR Basic Certificate and 3 years experience.
Must include four of the following:
Avalanche Awareness
Backcountry
Snowcat Operator
ATV Operator / Snowmobile Operator
Mantracker
Urban SAR
SAR Team Leader School
Intermediate Rope
Swiftwater
First Responder / EMT
Rescue Diver
Boats Mate
Helicopter Deployment
Four Wheel Drive and Winch Operation
Winter Survival / Summer Survival
Intermediate Search Management
Commercial Drivers License
Radio Operator
SAR Advanced Certificate - 100 hours additional training
Prerequisite: SAR Intermediate Certificate and 5 yrs experience. Must include one of the following:
Communications Specialist
Certified Mantracker
Swiftwater Technician
Advanced Rope Rescue
Mine Rescue
Dive Master
Marine Operator
