Unity in the Community?

Toy drives are in full swing at just about every business and school in and around town. What folks might not realize is that toys collected by most organizations (names withheld) are picked up and delivered to Houston where they are divided up to be distributed back into the "community" but not necessarily the Magnolia community. Only a very small percentage of toys collected in our city, make it back to our children. Truck loads are gathered here and what we get back can easily fit into one automobile or at best one small trailer.

The following letter was submitted to The Tribune and Magnolia Potpourri - since then more then 100 students have been added!

SOCIETY OF SAMARITANS S.O.S. Back to School Sue Storch Clothing Distribution
One of the many community service projects The Society of Samaritans offers is a Back to School clothing drive which supplies school age children 1 new outfit and 3 gently used outfits for students within the MISD who are suffering hardships and need assistance.
As of 7/28/09, 508 students have signed up for back to school clothing. There are 8 remaining days for sign ups. Due to present economic conditions the S.O.S. is in urgent need for persons to sponsor a child or family or donate financially so they can purchase clothing for students.
In 2008 SOS assisted 400 students with new outfits, 3 gently used and 100 additional gently used outfits from our clothing distribution center. As you can see, we have past that number and have less funding this year. Donations and funds raised from the Back to School Fashion Show simply will not meet the larger community need this year without continued community support.
To sponsor one or more children please go to www.societyofsamaritans.com and use our convenient online sponsorship form there.
For monetary donations please mail to SOCIETY OF SAMARITANS BACK TO SCHOOL PROJECT PO BOX 912 MAGNOLIA, TX 77353
