What a nice way to buy great things
SPRING IS HERE AND LAVENDER HONEY WOULD STILL BE THE PERFECT COMPANION TO YOUR HOT GLASS OF MINT TEA. If you've travelled around the world, stopped in one place or another for sightseeing, shopping or refreshments, you might have come across a style of art you really liked, some scent you really enjoyed,or some speciality food you went crazy over.... It has happened to us on several occasions, especially in the south of France, and some other exotic out-of-the-way places with incredible regional traditions and art.
2005 and also 2006 have been terrible years for bee keepers and the honey industry, especially in the South of France, Provence and the surrounding areas. Temperatures rose well above 100 degree Fahrenheit for extended periods of time and when the bees got to the Lavender Flowers, , they were dry. Productions fell way down, and due to the falling US Dollar, prices went way up. Lets hope for this upcoming harvest, things will change for the better. Honey is the only natural food product which never spoils.
The 2007 havest has just arrived. Quality of the product has not changed, quality is still as high as it ever was, even getting better. Prices, with a strong Euro and a weak Dollar had to be adjusted upward. Not to drastic, when one considers the high quality of the honey. Lets only hope that in the future, quality will stay as high, but price will be adjusted.
The 2008 harvest is in." Fantastique" as the French would say. No crystallization at all. We were afraid it would happen due to the extremely cold weather during the last few months. The chestnut flower honey has a slightly lighter color as it has been a wet year in the Cévennes Mountains.. Lavender Honey prices were stable, Mountain Flower Honey and Chestnut Flower Honey prices had to be adjusted slightly.
The 2009 harvest is the best we every had over the years. It seems to get better by the season. Clean, creamy, no crystallisation at all, even with the bad weather they had in Europe!!!! Close to white, we must say. In other words, a big success. Lets hope, prices will stabilize. The U.S. Dollar has not been doing very well in the last few months, but we are confident, things will turn to the better. No Chestnut Flower Honey this year. Too much rain in the Cevennes. There is some Spring Flower Honey available, which is excellent and a shade lighter then Chestnut Flower. Give it a try!!
