FRIDAY NIGHTS IN AMERICA (DVD)
|
|
Friday Nights In America (Courtesy of Ross Productions/ An RDC Entertainment Company)
Join us as we travel to west Texas, behind the scenes in the Permian lockerroom. Hear the Head Coach's pre-game speech. Follow the team out into their 19,000 seat stadium. Feel the screams of passionate west Texas fans as their beloved Panthers take on their arch rivals, Midland Lee. Experience the magic of MOJO, Permian's spirit that mystically drives them.
Follow our cameras into a private meeting at De La Salle H.S., as we film the team that has won 151 straight games. Hear the players in Concord, California talk about why they think they continue to win. You'll be shocked at the affluent community's indifference to "the streak". Meet the greatest head football coach in the history of high school football, Bob Ladouceur, as he talks about "the streak" and what it really means to the team.
Fly over 450,000 acres of sugar cane in the S. Florida Everglades to two dirt poor towns that, together, have sent more players to the NFL than any other two schools. See Pahokee and Glades Central play each other in a fierce rivalry in front of 9,000 fans in the "The Muck Bowl".
After filling you with spectacular highlights from the nation's dominant football programs, we visit tiny Hawkinsville, GA for a "miracle in the deep south." You'll also travel 600 miles north to see what it's like when a steel mill town in western, PA loses its high school team.
It's all in this powerful DVD that's filled with approx. one hour of features and extras.
Buy a copy of FRIDAY NIGHTS IN AMERICA and re-live the phenomenon of high school football in the fall. A must-see for anyone who has ever played the game or wished they had.

You know the BLOOM is off the BOOM when... By Ken Brodnax Illustration Reynaldo Leal
"The fusion of words and pictures benefits from Brodnax ability to tap experience and observation and what he calls Leal's ability to "spit in the eye of age. High recommendations for this one..." Mike Price- Ft.Worth Business Press
Ken Brodnax, sometimes just known as "Nax," knows here of he writes when it comes to baby boomers, because he is one. But when it came time to lend an artistic touch to the subject, Nax turned to a Gen Xer, Reynaldo Leal.
The two have the Odessa (Texas) American newspaper in common. Brodnax has written more than 3,000 columns for that newspaper in the past 20 years, and Leal, a commercial artist, does freelance illustrations.
Both have won statewide awards for their work. Brodnax, a native of San Angelo, Texas, and a graduate of West Texas A & M University has written two other books and contributed to several others.
Leal is a graduate of Odessa Permian High School, Odessa College and the University of Texas of the Permian Basin. He is a self-described "techno-geek" and enjoys hiking, biking, and hunting. Go Behind The Lights
|
|
Behind The Lights is a special publication of the Odessa American Advertising Department to chronicle the filming of a movie based on the best-seller "Friday Night Lights." The book followed the Permian High School Panthers through their 1988 football season. Articles in this section originally appeared in the Odessa American and were written by Odessa American reporters including David J. Lee who also traveled in September to Los Angeles for a special screening of the film. Lee interviewed Peter Berg, Brian Grazer and all of the actors who portrayed the main characters in the film. Many of the stories in this publication are taken from the archives of the Odessa American newsroom. Stories are dated and are, in some cases, shortened for this publication.
Featuring Interviews with
- H.G. "Buzz" Bissinger
- Peter Berg
- Brain Grazer
- Billy Bob Thorton
