Baby Wise is dangerous!
A well intentioned friend gave this book to me as a baby shower gift. I read anything and everything I was given like it was a cup of cold water. I just wanted to be THE best mamma... I suspect just like every other mamma in the world.
As I read Baby Wise I thought, "Yea! I want to have a baby that sleeps, eats and plays when I want it to. This will make my life much easier!" Well, it did not.
It just so happened that my baby was hungry, however, when I looked at the clock and my schedule it wasn't time to feed him yet. He wouldn't go to sleep when I wanted him to
AND his crying was severely breaking my heart! I knew there was some thing wrong. I sobbed and felt terrible! Even though I was a new mamma, I could feel it in my spirit that it just wasn't right to leave my baby laying there, in another room away from me, hungry and needing me just to keep us on a tight schedule.
I put the book down (wanted to burn it really!) and vowed to hold, love, nurse and sleep with my baby when I wanted, how I wanted and when he wanted me to.
In my humble opinion, Baby Wise is dangerous! Our children grow up fast enough! They are independent of us too quickly! In the blink of an eye they are married. We cannot get this time back. Enjoy motherhood. This is a gift to you from God. Baby (un)Wise is a "how to" guide to program a sleeper, eater and whatever else however, it will not show you the most loving way to raise your wee one, by meeting his needs when he needs you.
