She refused. Had she been sedated, she may not have been able to refuse. The doctors argued with her. How dare she not obey? How dare she be so selfish as to protect her baby. She was a very difficult patient indeed. She stayed one day in the hospital. Every moment she was harassed by the doctors and nursing staff to let them circumcise her son. Whose Choice?”. This was well before we were even thinking of having children so it had to have been a compelling show to have kept my interest. During this feature grown men were actually crying because their parents chose circumcision for them when they were newborns instead of allowing them the privilege of deciding that on their own. During this documentary the producers filmed an actual surgical circumcision. The site was horrific. From then on I decided that if we ever had boys that they would never be mutilated by this awful surgery. Are men not cleaner than they? There were several parents who approached me about their son’s botched circumcisions, however, they would not allow me to print their stories. It is such a private and sensitive issue. One young man is tormented every day with the tightening and curvature of his penis. He has been made fun of in the showers after gym class. One young boy asked his mommy what was wrong with his penis. He knew he was different and that something was wrong. I beg you, please spare your boy from the agony of pain and embarrassment. If he wishes to he can have the procedure done at a later time. Let him decide.
