The Voice  interview with   Mr. M.M. Doh

Editorial Board's Report

Mr. M.M. Doh

T he next point of call of the Editorial Board was the Bungalow 16. Residence of Mr. M.M. Doh, the patron of the Editorial Board.

The following are excerpts from the discussion we had with him.

EDITORIAL BOARD(EB):  Good evening Sir.

Mr. M.M.Doh (MMD):  Good evening. How are you all?

EB:  We are fine. We are here to have a little discussion with you as the npatron of the Editorial Board.

M.M.D.:  You are welcome.

EB:  Can you please throw a little light on how the school magazine came to be first printed?

M.M.D.:  Thank you. This is a very good way to begin. Sometime back in 1997, the need was felt for the school to have a magazine that will serve, in a sense, as the mothpiece of the school, not to mention the added benefits to be derived.

EB:  What are some of these other benefits?

M.M.D.:  The printing of the magazine has helped our students to become more imaginative, better informed and more creative. In the process, they have a wider scope of knowledge. Let me also mention that it has contributed to an improved linguistic competence on the part of the students.

EB:  Is there anything else worth mentioning about the advantages your students derive or can derive from the printing of the magazine?

M.M.D.:  I always maintain that whatever activity or programme students engage themselves in in school, is an opportunity for something good in future. It is no mere coincidence that one of our former students (in actual fact he was the President of the Editorial Board) has just been selectected out of a group of University students to travel to the United States of America during summer as a peer communicator and deliver lectures on creativity. Before then, we were asked to write an attestation on his creative abilities. So you see this is only one example of the many intangible benefits.

EB:  How is your Editorial Bord constituted?

M.M.D.:  The board is composed entirely of the students of the school. They carry different responsibilities and perform various duties.

EB:  Sir, as a Patron what exactly is your duty?

M.M.D.:  Thanks for this question. As a Patron, I advise the students on all aspects of their work. I also guide them to ensure that the right thing is done. I also do a good amount of editing. I have to be involve in every stage of the work. From the collection of the scripts through to the collation and to the typesetting, proof reading and editing.

EB:  How is the magazine financed?

M.M.D.:  The magazine is fully paid for by parents. And it is here that I wish to thank all parents as well as the Headmaster for their support. But for this support, all our hopes of printing this magazine would have remained a mere dream. Still talking about finance, we have tried seeking sponsorship from some companies. The response has not been too good but I wish to thank the following companies for their wonderful financial support.
(i)  SEDCO Publishing Ltd  -  Accra
(ii)  GETRADE Ghana Ltd.  -  Accra
We hope similar support will be forthcoming from other companies in future.

EB:  What does the future lok for this magazine?

M.M.D.:  The future looks really bright. I am looking into a future with a lot of hope. I look into a future where some of our boys will become great authors, wonderful writers and big time publishers.

EB:  Sir, before we go, do you have any compliments?

M.M.D.:  Yes,. I wish to thank God for taking us through it all. It is not by our strength but by His Grace that we have come this far. All parents and my colleague members of staff as well as the Editorial Board.
One person I cannot forget to thank is Nana Yaw, who did the printing. I remember the number of times he had to travel from Accra to Koforidua. The sacrifices he had to make and the inconveniences he had endured just to ensure that everything goes well. He has been such a faithful and committed gentleman to work with.

THE EDITORIAL BOARD

Otis Kafui - Chief Editor

A

nd now the bells are chimming. A year is born....

These few lines of Gabriel Okara's New Year 's Eve Midnight usher in the long awaited "Voice of Eastern Varsity".

Honestly, it has not been a smooth ride at all, but rather worth the adventurous try.

Despite all the odds against us, the good Lord above pulled us through the hard times.

The main objective behind the publishing of this magazine is to bring out the creativity and writing skills of students in this great institution, "Eastern Varsity", and to also reach out to the youth who are the future of this country.

The message is that they should learn hard and always keep in mind that there is gold after digging deep into the soil. All their efforts put into learning shall surely be crowned with success.

Eastern Varsity is back on track after a long period in the wilderness. The current SSSCE result is a testimony to it and nothing is going to stop us from climbing high the academic ladder.
You can bet on that!!!

This magazine has been published to sell the school's image to the outside world.

Finally, we would like to thank God for showing his mercy and blessings on us and seeing us through the production of this magazine. We say His name shall forever be blessed.

We also thank the Headmaster and staff not forgetting the typing pool at the general office and our dear patron, Mr. M.M. Doh for his tireless efforts and encouragement. We also thank our proud sponsors for their wonderful support. Our last thanks go to the students of this great institution.
To them we say "Ayikoo".

LOng live K.S.T.S.

Long live Mmarima Mma.

Long live Editorial Board.

And may God bless us all.

Now sit down, relax and enjoy your reading.

This "Mag" is exclusively published for you.
