Robert J. Tuite
Contact Dr. Tuite or The Fusfeld Group.

Dr. Robert J. Tuite is a Senior Associate, specializing in the management of technology, innovation, and new business development.

Dr. Tuite was formerly with Eastman Kodak Company, where he accumulated 34 years experience in research, product development, R&D management, and new business formation. His most recent positions were Director of the Research Labs' Color Photography Division (1976-78) and Color Instant Photography Division (1978-81), Assistant to the Director of Research (1981-83), Director, New Opportunity Development (1983-89), and Kodak Loaned Executive to High Technology of Rochester (1989-91).

In his Capacity as Director, first of the Color Photography Division, and then of the newly formed Color Instant Photography Division, Dr. Tuite had research management responsibility for all programs in their respective product areas, from fundamental research through product development. As Assistant to the Director of Research, he had overall research management responsibility for all non-mainstream programs, corporate research strategy and budgets, and new technology ventures.

As Kodak's Director, New Opportunity Development, Dr. Tuite was the primary architect and manager of the company's corporate innovation and internal venture program, which was aimed at technology-based corporate diversification. From a worldwide deal flow which has exceeded 4500 proposals, the program resulted in the commercialization of over 140 new products, processes, and businesses, including 14 start-ups that were sponsored outside the corporate business unite structure. With the acquisition of Sterling Drug in 1988 and the company's subsequent refocus on its base businesses, about 1/3 of the 14-venture portfolio has been merged into Kodak business units, another 1/3 divested, and and the remaining 1/3 closed down. The program also has had major impact on the corporate climate for innovation and entrepreneurship.

As A Kodak Loaned Executive to High Technology of Rochester (a new organization set up to facilitate the development and growth of technology-based businesses in the Rochester area), Dr. Tuite developed the Deal Flow Management process, coached numerous entrepreneurs, and was involved in organizing the Enterprise Development Center (business incubator), the Entrepreneurial Resource Network, an annual Venture Capital Forum, and miscellaneous other programs.

Dr. Tuite received his B.S. degree from St. John Fisher College (1956) and Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from the University of Illinois (1960); he also completed the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School (1981). He has 10 publications, 9 U.S. patents (and their foreign equivalents), and has given several presentations, including the leadership of or participation in seminars and discussion panels. He has also served on a number of Boards and committee, including current membership on the AMA Council on R&D Management. He is listed in "Who's Who in Technology Today", "American Men and Women of Science", and "International Leaders in Achievement".
