Business and Technology Competitive Intelligence

Critical Guidance for the Development of Business Strategies,
Technology Acquisition Programs, and Strategic Alliances

“What enables the wise sovereign and good general to strike and conquer, and achieve things beyond the reach of ordinary men, is foreknowledge.” ---Sun Tzu, The Art of War

Useful Business and Technology Competitive Intelligence enables an organization to identify new business initiatives and technologies before they become commercial, so that management can anticipate competitor actions, or acquire technologies from external sources for competitive advantage in the marketplace.

Training programs in business and technology competitive intelligence were developed by Matt Coburn, Senior Partner in The Fusfeld Group. These programs which parallel his book, Competitive Technical Intelligence: A Guide to Design, Analysis and Action<-I>, can be adapted to an organization’s needs in a variety of options, such as:

  1. A series of four half-day seminars and workshops on the following topics:
    • Competitive Intelligence frameworks and organization.
    • Linking Competitive Intelligence with Business Needs and Supporting Technologies.
    • Linking Competitive Intelligence with Technology Strategic Planning.
    • Technology Acquisition, Joint Development, and Strategic Alliances.

Participants will have the opportunity to adapt the materials to their own situations and needs. These sessions can be provided at multiple sites as part of a design to build a balanced competitive intelligence network.

  2. Coaching and counseling as follow-up to the workshops to guide and catalyze activities as the in-company program develops.

  3. Facilitate the design and the implementation of one or more pilot programs to become familiar with the tools and techniques in data collection and analysis, as well as to start to develop actionable intelligence.

  4. Carry out specific competitive intelligence assignments such as patent bibliometrics, or competitor profiling.
