Charles Scouten joined The Fusfeld Group as Senior Associate in 1999 after more than 25 years of industrial experience with BP Amoco, Exxon and Xerox. He consults in the technology management areas of Innovation for Growth, Using Networks as a Strategic Management Tool, Valuing Technology for Mergers and Acquisitions, and Technology Integration for Mergers and Acquisitions (planning, implementation). In addition, Dr. Scouten also provides technical consulting services for the process industries (gas/oil, chemicals, energy, food, forest products). Here, his expertise includes Separation Processes (physical, chemical), Reaction Engineering, and Process Troubleshooting.

Background

A very broad background includes assignments in Technology Network Leadership, Merger Planning, Merger Implemetation, Technology Project Management, Accessing External Technology, Competitive Intelligence, and Strategic Technology Planning.

Dr. Scouten’s accomplishments include the following:

  • Led Advanced Separations Network with global responsibility for coordinating separation process RD&D across Amoco business units.
  • Member of BP Amoco merger team responsible for planning global integration of technology efforts.
  • Initiated and led over a dozen technology joint development and technology acquisition projects, including two joint ventures to commercialize externally-developed technologies.
  • Initiated and led government contract development process that averaged $4 million/year external funding for technology joint development projects.
  • Technical representative from Amoco Refining Business Group to Petroleum Products Sector Business Intelligence team.
  • Member of team that initiated and led development of a Strategic Technology Plan for Amoco Petroleum Products.
  • Member of Technology Planning Team that followed up to turn the strategic plan into specific implementation plans.

  • B.S.-Chemistry, University of Georgia (1968) - Texaco Research Fellow 1966-1968
  • Ph.D.-Organic Chemistry, Purdue University (1975) - Department of Defense Fellow
  • Contributor (6 of 42 chapters) to the Fuel Science and Technology Handbook (Marcel Dekker: New York, (1st Ed.) 1990, (2nd Ed.) 1998)  
  • Member: American Chemical Society, American Institute of Chemical Engineers, Society of Petroleum Engineers, American Association for the Advancement of Science, Catalysis Society, Catalysis Club of Chicago
  • Authored more than 45 research publications, and holds 11 US patents
