Brims With a Twist: Examples of Brimmed Hats with Removable Handspun Skein Band
-
The beautifully embellished turned-up brim of this style of hat is the nest for an energetic two-ounce skein of handspun yarn. Warm, light-weight, and a joy to behold, no two are quite alike--you will be wearing a truly singular item!
Not only is this style flattering to nearly everyone just as it is (and especially fetching cocked to the side), the brim is adjustable: it can be worn all the way up as shown, partly up/partly down, or all the way down in a sort of mysterious 'bucket' fashion.
Care… Let your hat care for you! Wear in the wind, rain and snow. Crush it in your suitcase for a couple of days and watch it bloom back to its proper, steamed-in form. (We don't advocate it being crushed in long-term storage, however.)
The wild-looking, two-ounce band or collar is one of the simplest of ‘collapse’ textiles, composed solely of a hand-spun skein of single-stranded yarn. Seeking to untwist, the yarn can only “untwist” around itself to reach an equilibrium of localized double-stranded events. Boing! It’s pure physics.
Size: Approximately Medium (22"). Crown height approx. 5 in. Full diameter approx. 11 in. Total weight approx. 7 oz.
Price: $325 plus insured shipping.
