Backpack Safety America Teacher's Guide
Written by chiropractor Dr. Marvin Arnsdorff and associate professor Sara Davis Powell, this workbook is designed with the middle school teacher and student in mind. Curriculum directly addresses the seven principles of the National Health Education Standards and will inform students about the very real consequences of incorrectly choosing, packing, lifting and wearing backpacks. The program includes 16 lessons that may be implemented in sequence in a condensed time frame or spread over a whole semester as time permits. The primary focus of the lessons is to show students how to: choose a backpack that is proper for body size and type; pack a backpack so it is not overloaded and items are balanced; lift the backpack to minimize back strain; and wear the backpack to alleviate harmful spinal stress. Workbook pages are perforated so teachers can duplicate them easily and distribute to the classroom.

Pete the Posture Parrot
Pete is the perfect complement to the Backpack Safety America program and also an excellent promotional tool all on his own. Pete will help you remind your little patients about the importance of good posture. He’s cute and cuddly and his beautiful vibrant colors make him an instant attraction. Best yet, he talks! Squeeze his wing and he says four different things, including: “take care of your spine and you’ll feel fine” and “if you slouch you’re gonna say ouch, ouch, ouch!” Pete is a delightful gift and we guarantee your young patients will love him.
