We are proud of the pedigrees behind our horses. They have some of the purest Appaloosa breeding to be found and are the result of years of dedication by a number of breeders. We are honored to carry on with what they have started. Below this narrative you will find printable, HTML four generation pedigrees for each of our horses. If you would like a complete pedigree on a horse, please use the above banner link to the Del Mar Allbreeds database. Simply select the name of the horse from the drop-down menu and click "Get NorthStar Pedigree". Once at the Del Mar site you can also set-up hypothetical matings of our horses, check for siblings, etc. You will also have access to over 750,000 other equine pedigrees listed in the Del Mar Database. Note that the data on the AllBreeds site is not "secure" and may have been altered without our knowledge. Please contact us if you have questions or corrections on any of our pedigrees on the Del Mar site.
We know it takes more than a pedigree to make a good horse. As the saying goes "You can't ride the paper". We also look closely at the conformation, temperament, and overall ability of not just the horse in question, but its sire, dam, and siblings. Potential and the ability to make it reality is what we try to find.
As with pedigrees, we do not think a good show record necessarily makes a good horse, nor do we think that lack of a show record makes a poor horse. Each horse needs to be evaluated on its own merit based on it's expected use. While a show record makes this easier in some regards, we prefer to ride our horses on the trail and evaluate them that way. We break all our horses to ride once they reach an appropriate age. Riding them on the trail helps us evaluate the capabilities of each of our horses- and its a lot of fun!
