Hi Rhonda. Sorry for the delay in response. We have had some PC problems, but we hope to update the web site soon. Anyway if you are wanting to know how to tell if a horse is shuffling, watch a pair of diagonal legs as the horse moves at a speed between the walk and canter. If the legs are not in time such that the horse's gait has foor distint hoof beats versus the two beats of "trot-trot" then the horse is likely in some type of shuffling gait. More information about the various gaits can be found on our web site. You can get there from the main menu by going to "Classic Appaloosas" and then clicking on one of the articles about gaits. In regard to starting a shuffler and encouraging the gait, there are several things that can be done, but the basics are the same and to some degree it depends on the horse and its conformation. Was this the information you were looking for?
PS- we've seen the recent pictures of Savannah and she's looking really nice!
